Postgraduate Research
Fees and Scholarships
Higher degree research programs may be fee paying or RTS/HECS exempt. Local students pay Student Activities Fees. Scholarships with stipends are available for local and international higher degree research students.
Research Training Scheme (RTS)
An exemption from fees for local/domestic research candidates who have not exceeded their maximum time has been granted to all Macquarie research students under the RTS. The Professional Doctor of Business Administration and Doctor of Applied Linguistics degrees are not included under this scheme and tuition fees apply. FEE - HELP is available for eligible local candidates in fee-paying programs.
Course Fees
Tuition fees are charged each half-year on the basis of the student load for that half-year. The tuition fee does not include the Student Activities Fee for local students.
Student Activities Fees
Under the Higher Education Support Act (Abolition of Compulsory Up-front Student Union Fees), the payment of student activity fees is voluntary. The legislation entitles students to voluntarily become members of Macquarie University Sport and Recreation (MUSR), Students at Macquarie (SAM), the Student Council or Postgraduate Representative Association (MUPRA).
Higher Degree Research Scholarships
In addition to government scholarships, Macquarie offers several awards with stipends. Scholarships currently open for applications: www.research.mq.edu.au/students/scholarships
Details of scholarships and awards are published regularly in the publication Macquarie University Staff News and are displayed in the Higher Degree Research Unit of the Research Office, the Student Enquiry Service, and in Division/Department offices.
Scholarship information is also available in the Handbook of Postgraduate Studies (student information).
