About the scholarship
Applicants should have completed a four-year undergraduate degree with first class honours or an equivalent qualification in environmental studies, science, engineering or a similar background. The award is available to Australian and International citizens.
The tenure is for three years for PhD candidates, subject to satisfactory progress. The award stipend is currently $18,837 per annum tax exempt in line with the Australian Postgraduate Award rate. Annual top-ups of up to $5813 would be considered on a yearly basis, subject to funding and performance. About the CCSD
The Cooperative Research Centre for Coal in Sustainable Development (CCSD) is one of 64 Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs) established and supported through the Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centres Program. CRCs are devoted to strengthening collaborative links between industry, research organisations and government agencies to achieve real outcomes of national, economic and social significance.
CCSD commenced operations on 1 July 2001 and is an unincorporated joint venture consisting of eighteen participating organisations from the black coal producing and using industries and research organisations in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia. CCSD’s vision is to optimise the contribution of coal to a sustainable future and it will invest $61 million over a seven-year period in pursuit of this goal.
The Centre brings together the majority of Australia’s coal research skill base as well as experts in sustainability. CCSD researchers are recognised internationally as being at the forefront of coal research in the international science community. CCSD’s research is underpinned by a focus on the three dimensions of sustainability - economic, social and environmental. Research is conducted in several research programs to deliver outcomes that inform strategic decisions; improve environmental performance; and understand coal performance in technology.
