Macquarie University’s Division of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS) will be hosting a free seminar on the evening of September 20 to explore the world of Extreme Programming (XP).
Extreme Programming is an exciting new set of techniques for software development and management. Knowledge of XP is rapidly becoming vital for programmers, software engineers and indeed anyone involved in the development of software.
Extreme Programming has gained a great number of vocal supporters in recent years with software developers adopting the new techniques and achieving outstanding results. It is a software development approach built around rapid iterations, an emphasis on code writing and working closely with end users to achieve business results. Continual testing and the idea that programmers should work in pairs are also at the core of XP.
A team approach
Speaking at the seminar will be Associate Professor Dominic Verity, Academic Director of Postgraduate and Professional Development in ICS. He will be joined by IT student Vaughan Gregg, who has been working extensively on XP projects.
They will address the issues surrounding XP and answer the most common questions for people new to the approach, such as why so many people are excited about XP; why software developers should learn it and how XP techniques can be put to good use within an organisation.
The seminar will take place in the foyer of Building E6A from 6 pm to 8 pm on September 20. Refreshments will be included. For more information about the event contact Ruth Bonser at pgadmin@ics.mq.edu.au A map of the campus can be viewed at http://www.bgo.mq.edu.au/campus.htm
