Scholarships for international students
International students who are looking to undertake postgraduate coursework at Macquarie can benefit from the Macquarie University International Scholarship program (MUIS).
Macquarie has the largest international scholarship program in Australia, and each year provides opportunities to undergraduate and postgraduate students to undertake study on campus.
MUIS
The MUIS program is aimed at attracting outstanding students from across the world and recognises students who have distinguished themselves academically. The program is highly competitive and is awarded on the basis of merit.
Forty-four MUIS recipients from 17 countries commenced study at Macquarie in Semester 1 2007.
Scholarships are available across most courses to cover international tuition fees for on-campus study. The MUIS provides full tuition for the minimum course duration. Students are required to pay their own living costs including accommodation and other expenses associated with studying in another country.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand
- have met the University's academic and English requirements
- have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (out of 4.0).
Annual renewal of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory performance.
Application procedure
Scholarships are open to international students with qualifications from recognised institutions suitable for admission to a postgraduate coursework program.
Students must follow the normal procedure for admission to the course of their choice, completing an application form with certified copies of all relevant documents and an application fee of $110. They will then need to complete an online MUIS application form and include two referee reports.
Applicants must have a full offer from Macquarie University before applying for a scholarship.
If an applicant does not meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship but meets the conditions of entry into Macquarie University they will be notified by an admissions officer.
MUIS awardees will have their $110 application fee refunded.
Closing dates
The closing date for MUIS applications for Semester 1 2008 is Wednesday 31 October. Semester 2 2008 applications close on 30 April 2008.
Students applying for a scholarship for Semester 1 2008 will be advised of the outcome of their application in December 2007.
